Hades’ Disciples “Is Nothing Short of Astounding!”

Hades Blog Tour 2014

Wow!  The blog tour for Hades’ Disciples, Book Two in the Legacy of the Gods series, goes out with a bang today!  Check out a bit of this review from The Rage Circus:

“Have you ever read a book that left you thinking that the author must be in on some great universal secret?  Have thoughts like this crossed your mind as you sat reeling from page after page of amazing description of things not of our everyday world that are written as if the author had actually seen them in person?  They must have experienced the terror themselves.  They had to have watched the horror unfold before their very eyes and somehow survived.  Could there really be any other explanation for how a human being could envision such monstrosities and present them on the page with enough vivid description to make it all seem plausible that these things could really exist?  In the case of Michael West and the creatures found within the pages of Hade’s Disciples, I hope for all our sakes that West is just that damn talented!…Michael West has proven time and time again his mastery of the written art.  He does not write a story so much as take you on a journey where he plays a movie within your mind…Action, horror, vividly described monsters, life-like characters, what more could one ask for in a novel?  In the case of a novel by Michael West, you can also expect a well-researched and carefully assembled mythology…West clearly sets himself apart from other lesser-skilled writers as a professional in his piecing together of the lineage and the motives of the characters that creep onto his pages.  While there is definitely a certain Lovecraft feel to West’s work, there is not a moment where he lapses and allows it to be anything but his own. Although his creatures may at times be familiar to us, such as werewolves and yeti, West makes sure that they are still something that we have never quite seen prior to reading his work…My only complaint about this novel just highlights another strength of this amazing story teller. My complaint is likely the same as every fan of this series to date.  The cliffhanger at the end will leave you staring dumbly at the last page, hoping, wishing that you could will more story into existence!  West, yet again, proves that he is a master story teller in his ability to leave us wanting more!”

The Wide Game Is “Excellent!!!!!”

MichaelWestTourBadgeWideGame

Bee’s Knees Reviews just posted a great new review of my novel, The Wide Game.  Here’s a bit of what they had to say…

“Michael West is one of the best storytellers I have ever read. The Wide Game from start to finish had me on the edge of my seat. It never lagged, it was never slowed, it was just one twist and turn barreling to the end.  I absolutely loved The Wide Game. I loved the details when the story flashes back to the 80s. This book was not just written it was crafted. It was smart, witty, funny and scary. Perfection all rolled in to one horror novel.  I highly recommend this to everyone… a 5 out of 5 for me. Excellent!!!!!”

The Wide Game Is a 4-Star Pick of the Literate!

MichaelWestTourBadgeWideGame

Pick of the Literate just posted a new review of my first Harmony, Indiana novel, The Wide Game, giving it four stars…er, flaming skulls!

skull-4

Here’s a bit of what they had to say…

“Once again the small town of Harmony, Indiana turns out to be less than harmonious.  More demented souls seem to reside in this small, corn fed town than any major metropolis.  What is up with all the corn fed fear?  Michael West surely has a strange turn of mind.  I’m guessing that he, like Stephen King, has the heart of a small boy and he too, keeps it in his top desk drawer.  After plowing through the mayhem you discover that you aren’t done yet.  Mr. West likes to flip things around just when you think you have everything figured out.   Robby Miller of the Spook House is here, younger and not yet jaded.   I have read and reviewed  Spook House , Poseidon’s Children and Cinema of Shadows all by Michael West.   He has carved a niche into the face of evil, leaving his readers looking over their shoulders and listening to the wind in the corn.  I’ve stated before I don’t read a lot of horror stories but I really the way Michael West renders them.”

The Wide Game Offers “Fast-Paced Scares” & “Substance!”

MichaelWestTourBadgeWideGame

L. Andrew Cooper’s Horrific Scribblings has published what may be the most thorough, well-written review ever of my work.  While I would love to re-post the entire thing, here is an excerpt…

The Wide Game is a tense, well-structured page-turner that draws on regional flavor–the fictional town of Harmony in an atmospherically real Indiana–that earns it a place in American horror alongside other regionalists like Stephen King and Bentley Little, not to mention Poe and Lovecraft…West is courteous enough to deliver twisted plotting with tickle-torturing efficacy, something too often lacking in today’s straightforward subgenre ruts, and his attention to detail is careful enough to merit serious rethinking and rereading in order to admire the narrative elaboration as a product of true craftsmanship rather than cheap trickery…The bottom line is that The Wide Game is a fun read even if you don’t care to think about issues of generational identity, history, memory, and the influence of art over the structure of thought. But if you care to think, the book has all that, too.”

“I am a huge Stephen King fan. This story reminded me of him.  It is one of the best horror stories that I have read in a long time…and I can really see this becoming a movie. It was the perfect October read. I am giving this a 5/5.”

Reviewer Gets Lost Inside The Covers (And the Cornstalks) of The Wide Game!

MichaelWestTourBadgeWideGame

Lost Inside The Covers just posted a great new review of my novel The Wide Game.  Here is an excerpt…

“This book pulled me in right away.  Tense, scary, bloody and horrifying…There are twists and turns, bunches of crows and some Indian mythology at play.  The tension disappears then ratchets up to twist you into knots before the guillotine falls.  No, there isn’t a guillotine, but you get the idea…4 black stars sitting amongst a murder of crows, staring at you quietly as you walk by.”

“Vampires the Way They were Meant to Be Written!”

 anthologyextravaganza

Bee’s Knees Reviews just posted a great new 5-Star review of my first anthology as editor, Vampires Don’t Sparkle!  Here is an excerpt:

“This is a throwback to old school vampires as they should be. They are evil, scary and bloody. I knew Michael West would pick awesome tales and he did not disappoint. All the stories were very readable and enjoyable. My favorites from the group were ‘Vampire Nation’ by Jerry Gordon, ‘The Excavation’ by Stephen Zimmer, ‘A Soldier’s Story’ by Maurice Broaddus and ‘Robot Vampire’ by R. J. Sullivan. This book is not for the Twilight fans this is for fans of horror and of Vampires the way they were meant to be written.”

Vampires Don’t Sparkle! “Is, Well, Awesome!”

anthologyextravaganza

Book in a Bag just posted a great new 5-Star review of my first anthology as editor, Vampires Don’t Sparkle!  Here is an excerpt:

“In Vampires Don’t Sparkle!, editor Michael West has managed to take the vampire and make it awesome again. He got rid of the current trend of sexy, sparkly, undead love interests that make teenage girls swoon, and instead has replaced it with something dark, something unique. Gone are the cheezy ‘I want to suck your blood’ types that 1950s B-level horror flicks brought us. Gone are the neauveau un-scary un-dead. What he’s left us with is, well, awesome.”

Vampires Don’t Sparkle!: “A Feast for True Horror Lovers!”

 VDS_standing book

WTF Are You Reading? just posted a great new review of my first anthology as editor, Vampires Don’t Sparkle!  Here is an excerpt:

“This anthology is for those of us who like a little bite with our vampire.  Those of us who crave the scare more than the swoon.  Those of  us wanting the fright with the fangs.  This darkly delicious smorgasbord of things that go bump in the night is a feast for true horror lovers. Sporting a list that reads like a who’s who of horror; this book has something for every fan of the fanged. “

And they go on to give the anthology their highest rating!
