“Ave Satani” a Reel Dark Story!

Reel Dark cover

My short story, “Ave Satani,” will be featured in the Reel Dark anthology.   Described as a “sojourn into apocalyptic soundscapes”, “Ave Satani” tells the story of a legendary film composer’s unused final score, one that should have remained lost forever.

Here is the official press release:

Seventh Star Press is proud to reveal the cover art by Aaron Drown of Aaron Drown Design for the new edition of the Reel Dark anthology from editors L. Andrew Cooper and Pamela Turner.  With a cinema theme and a mix of speculative fiction tales that include suspense, horror, science fiction, fantasy, and even poetry, readers will find this anthology a unique and captivating reading experience.

This edition features 2 brand new stories, one from bestselling horror author Michael West and one from acclaimed author and editor Alexander S. Brown.  eBook and print editions are set for release in the first week of May.

Synopsis of Reel Dark:
Welcome to a macabre cinema for the imagination, to twisted tales projected not on a movie screen but on the page. In Reel Dark you’ll find suspense, horror, science fiction, and fantasy in fiction and poetry by authors ranging from new voices to bestsellers. From the battle for recognition between a child actress and a vengeful, long-forgotten film star in “Whatever Happened to Peggy…Who?” to a hapless artist whose talent propels him into a nightmare of jealousy and revenge in “The Dreamist,” the authors have created worlds filled with madness and twisted desires. Where the lines between reality and fantasy blur, where films flicker at 24 frames per second, we catch a glimpse of strangers’ dreams and nightmares. As David Lynch puts it, “This whole world is wild at heart and weird on top.” As Karen Head writes in her poem “Amnesia,” responding to Lynch, “In the movies / everything is illusion.” But with cameras everywhere, how do you know whether you’re in a movie?

Hades’ Disciples Is “Highly Recommended!”

Jess Resides Here just posted a wonderful new 4-Star review of The Legacy of the Gods, Book Two: Hades’ Disciples.  Here is a bit of what she had to say:

“This is a seriously good series that I wish more people knew about. Michael has written what is a super fun and entertaining urban fantasy that gets the reader hooked and desperate for more… mythological and fantasy creatures tied to modern day… good guys in a race against time to keep the bad guys from implementing their evil plan… Well written characters that are so fascinating to read about I so want to get my hands on book three. You’ll also have a sex scene that will blow your mind. Highly recommended.”

Spook House Haunts #1 Spot on Bestseller List!

Spook House Kobo Bestseller

Bestselling author Michael West has another hit on his hands.  His third Harmony, Indiana novel for Seventh Star PressSpook House, just became a #1 bestseller, topping the Horror charts for Kobo.  A global leader in eReading, Kobo delivers the best digital reading experience to millions of users in 190 countries, offering one of the world’s largest catalogs with millions of titles.

In Spook House, there are some places in this world that go far beyond any normal definition of “haunted.”  These places are so evil, so diabolical, that they become gateways to Hell itself.  The Fuller Farm is one such place.

It is said that old man Fuller conducted unspeakable acts, blood rituals and human sacrifices, all in an attempt to gain the ultimate knowledge, the ultimate power.  And then, he was killed–horribly murdered on his own lands, leaving the house to stand as a vacant monument to his wickedness.  But once a door is opened, it can never really be closed.

Now, the stars are right.   The gateway is ready to once more unleash unspeakable horror upon the town of Harmony, Indiana.   And this will be one Halloween that they will never forget!

The Monster Librarian Recommends “Vampires!”

The Monster Librarian has posted a wonderful new review of my first anthology as editor, Vampires Don’t Sparkle!  Here’s a bit of what they had to say:

“From fun to splattery, and with a smattering of regional specialties, Michael West has assembled a collection of stories designed to leave prissy, playboy bloodsuckers in their condos and compounds. In his selections, monsters run the streets again. Standout stories include Joel A. Sutherland’s “Skraeling”, “Dreams of Winter” by Bob Freeman, and Jerry Gordon’s “Vampire Nation”, though with so much great fiction inside it’s hard to pick out just a few. Definitely recommended for public and private horror collections.”

Hades’ Disciples Catches Bitten by Books “Completely Off Guard!”

Bitten by Books newLogo

Bitten by Books just posted a new 4-star review of my second Legacy of the Gods novel, Hades’ Disciples. Here’s a bit of what they had to say:

“4-stars! This was the second installment of the series and, although Hades’ Disciples could stand on its own, I really appreciated the continuity and getting reacquainted with several of my favorite characters from the last book. I was, once again, impressed by the illustrations and the imagination that went into building these characters. This time the “creatures” felt more substantial and more threatening at the same time. I was particularly intrigued by the Dragon Lady Attorney that was introduced in this one…The ending caught me completely off guard, but now, of course, I need the third installment.
